about

The Sandrock Hilton is an Airstream trailer that a friend of mine got for free and had hauled onto the land our friends were kind enough to let us live on. He was a country boy and an industrious fellow. He set in on gutting it and replacing the body panels with bright aluminum sheets and a pop riveter. It was going to be home. Little did he know in six months he would move to New York City and live there for the rest of his natural life.

I lived in a one-car garage that sat on a ridgetop with a cat that wasn't mine named Eugene who fancied steak bones. The shack was wired with power running off a panel that fed the natural gas well nearby. I had what they used to call a garden at the base of a big oak tree where I built a treehouse to sleep in during the summer, until the ants ran me out. So long, breeze.

Looking back, those days were the most irresponsible of my life and probably always will be. Time ran out like a ball of yarn running down the biggest baldest mountain you've ever seen.
